Gloucester, MA — Salvatore “Sammy” Favazza, 73, husband of Assunta “Susie” (Caruana) Favazza, of Gloucester, passed away on Saturday, September 1, 2012, at the Beverly Hospital.
Born in Terrasini, Sicily on November 23, 1938, he was the son of the late Carlo and Lucy (Parisi) Favazza.
Sammy attended school in Sicily and had proudly served in the Italian Army as a Paratrooper during the early 1960s.
After moving to Gloucester, he worked at Gorton’s for 30 years before retiring.
He was a member of the St. Peter’s Club and the Gloucester Lodge of Elks. Sammy was a passionate gardner and grew all kinds of vegetable, fruits and flowers. Most of all, Sammy was a loving and devoted family man and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his wife Susie, he is survived by his children, Cristina Brancaleone and her husband Anthony, Carlo Favazza and his wife Jennifer, Steven Favazza and his wife Rachelle; grandchildren Grace and Joseph; aunts and uncles, Joseph Parisi and wife Paige, Rosalie Laiachino, Mary Pizzimenti, Mary Parisi and many loving cousins. He is also survived by brothers-in-law Angelo Caruana and wife Tina, Giuseppe Caruana; sisters-in-law Franca Caruana and Agata Caruana; nieces Daniela Piscopo ,Chiara Ugolini and nephew Francesco Caruana all of La Spezia, Italy.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his uncles Joseph Laiachino, Vincent “Jimmy” Pizzimenti, Thomas Parisi; his in-laws Tommaso and Maria (Basso) Caruana; and brother-in-law Salvatore Caruana.
ARRANGEMENTS: His funeral service will be held in the Cape Ann Bible Church on Wednesday, September 5th at 10:00 a.m. Family and friends are cordially invited to attend.
Visiting hours will be held in the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington Street, Gloucester on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m.
The burial will be held in Calvary Cemetery.
