Rockport — Mary “Libby” Woodbury, wife of the late Stanley Woodbury, passed away on September 3, following a brief stay at Addison Gilbert Hospital in Gloucester.
She was born in Gloucester, MA on June 10, 1921, the daughter of the late Paul and Mary Peterson. Libby spent her school years in Rockport, raised her family in Lanesville, and spent her remaining years again in Rockport.
A graduate of Rockport High School, Libby was faithful to her childhood friends, nurturing a bond that lasted more than seven decades. She was a “Finn” through and through, continuing to speak Finnish and staying connected as a member of the Finlandia Foundation. She adored animals and spent countless hours relaxing on Front Beach.
Libby is survived by two children, her daughter Barbara (Woodbury) Nelson and her husband Bill Nelson; her son, Ronald Woodbury; five grandchildren, Lauren (Sampson) Walling, Michael Sampson, Scott Woodbury Stewart, Ronald Woodbury, Jr., and Danny Woodbury. In addition, Libby had four great-grandchildren, Colin, Tiffany and Noah Woodbury and Riley Walling.
She was predeceased by her infant daughter, Dale Woodbury; her son Keith Woodbury; her daughter Carol Sampson and her daughter-in-law, Linda Woodbury.
ARRANGEMENTS: A private ceremony will be held by the family, where her ashes will be scattered to the sea. There will be no visiting hours.
