Gloucester, MA — William R. "Billy" Thompson, 71, of Gloucester, passed away on Saturday, July 27, 2013, at the Lahey Clinic Medical Center in Burlington.
He was born in Gloucester on March 31, 1942, and was the son of the late Reginald O. and Eunice M. (O’Neil) Thompson.
He attended Gloucester schools. In his earlier years, Billy worked for Color Associates and for Henry Rossi as a painter, and later for the David Parker Co. until his retirement.
According to his sister, Margaret, Billy would reminisce about his painting career and stated that he had painted many well-known residences and mansions around the Cape Ann area.
He is survived by two daughters, Renay M. Allen-McManus of Exeter, N.H., and Shelley Thompson of Boston; two grandchildren, Erica and Andrea McManus both of Exeter; a brother, Michael Thompson of West Peabody; sisters, Patricia Hand, Margaret York and Shirley Thompson, all of Gloucester; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He is also survived by Joyce’s children, Terry Jones, Benjamin Jones and Robin Collins, and her daughter, Hannah Collins.
He was predeceased by a sister, Delia Tolman; a brother, Robert Thompson; and his longtime companion, Joyce (Doucette) Jones.
ARRANGEMENTS: In keeping with his wishes, there will be no funeral services.
