Frank S. Pizzo, 75, husband of Arlene H. (Hodgkins) Pizzo of Essex, passed away Friday, February 10, 2012, in his home surrounded by his loving family, following his brief illness.
Born in Salem September 4, 1936, he was the son of the late Anthony and Mary (Conti) Pizzo. He was educated in local public schools and graduated from Salem High School with the Class of 1954. He enlisted in the US Army, a veteran of the Korean War and longtime member of the American Legion. Married in Beverly on September 12, 1964, the Pizzos made their home and raised their family in Essex.
He worked as a maintenance supervisor with Bursaw Oil Corp, retiring in 2001 after forty-seven years of employment. He enjoyed working as a limousine driver following his retirement. His hobbies included working on his cars, woodworking and being an all around handyman. He enjoyed traveling with his family, outings to Foxwoods, playing cards and watching wrestling. More than anything, he loved helping others, especially the neighborhood children.
In addition to his wife of forty-seven years, he is survived by two sons, Stephen J. Pizzo and his wife Karen of Gloucester and Frank S. Pizzo, II of Essex, his grandchildren, Christopher Pizzo of Lewiston, ME, Shawn Pizzo of Gloucester and John Pizzo of Essex, and great-grandchildren Eyana and Ryker of Lewiston. He is also survived by his brother, Anthony Pizzo of Florida and several nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late John D. Pizzo, formerly of Essex.
ARRANGEMENTS: A celebration of his life will be held Sunday, February 26, 1 to 5 pm in the Essex Senior Center, 17 Pickering Street, Essex. Family and friends are respectfully welcomed. Arrangements are under the direction of the Whittier-Porter Funeral Home of Ipswich.
