Gloucester, MA — George L. (Bumpy) Cabral, 71, husband of Ruth A. (McNamara) Cabral, of Gloucester, passed away on Wednesday evening, December 12, 2012, at the Addison Gilbert Hospital.
Born in Gloucester on April 5, 1941, he was the son of the late George and Edna (Rich) Cabral.
George had attended Gloucester schools and had worked most of his life as a fisherman. He was a lobsterman aboard the Little Star and had worked for a tug boat and gambling ship company. For the last 17 years, he had worked with the Yankee Fleet.
George was well known as a prankster, often dressing up in costumes and was nicknamed the Mayor of Munchkin Land by his co-workers and friends at the Yankee Fleet, who were like his second family to him.
In his later years, he enjoyed taking weekend trips to Maine to visit his sister Edie and her husband Dana.
His addition to his beloved wife Ruth of 49 years, he is survived by his children, Mike Cabral, George Cabral Jr. and wife Kim, Sharon Cabral; two grandchildren, Gianna and Joey Cabral; his siblings, Catherine Cabral, Wally Cabral and companion Gayla DeCoste, Sharon Porter, Gary Cabral and wife Tina, Edie Brown and husband Dana, Pauline Santapaola and husband Jim; his godchildren, Elliott Morris, Marybeth Harvey; in-laws, Karen Cabral, Evelyn Cabral and many nieces, nephews and numerous friends.
He was predeceased by his brothers, Al Cabral, David Cabral; in-laws, Kathy D. Cabral and Bill Porter.
ARRANGEMENTS: His funeral service will be held in the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington Street, Gloucester on Wednesday, December 19th at 11:00 a.m. Family and friends are cordially invited to attend.
Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
The burial will be held privately.
