Guy E. Sholds, 66

Gloucester, MA — Guy E. Sholds, 66, of Gloucester, passed away at home after a long illness on Saturday, June 23, 2012. He was the husband of Patricia (Knowlton) Sholds for 48 years. Born in Beverly on January 29, 1946, son of the late Oscar and Dorothy (Cooper) Sholds. He had attended Gloucester High School with the Class of 1963.

Guy was retired from Coca-Cola as a mechanic after 35 years. He had worked at the plants in Lynn, Waltham and Needham.

He loved spending his weekends with family and friends and his greatest enjoyment was the time he had with his grandchildren. Guy was a lifelong member of the Gloucester Lodge of Elks and past Exalted Ruler from 1989 to 1990. He enjoyed the many, many years there going through the Chairs and helping out when it was needed most, especially with his wife and longtime friend, the late Arthur LeClair. He also loved the old times he spent camping with his friends and family at Kings & Queens.

He is survived by his two children, Mark R. Sholds and wife Linda (Skinner); Susan McNeilly and husband Jeremy “Jay”; grandchildren Mark R. Sholds and his fiancé Britiany Amaral, Jason Geary, Lisa, Hailey, Lilly and Jay Lynne McNeilly; great-granddaughter Mailee Sholds; brothers Robert and Helen Sholds of Lynn, John and Patricia Sholds of Beverly; sisters-in-law Judy Sholds, wife of the late Frank Sholds, Diane Hansford of N.H.; brother-in-law William Knowlton of Lowell; special friends and nephew Richard Sholds, aunt Alfreda Collins; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by his daughter Lisa (Sholds) Geary; and father and mother-in-law Everette and Lillian (Curley) Knowlton.

ARRANGEMENTS: His funeral service will be held in the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington Street, Gloucester, on Thursday, June 28th, at 10:30 a.m. Family and friends are cordially invited to attend.

Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

The burial will be held in Calvary Cemetery.

She was the mother of Mary, Robert, Ian, Ted, Don and Peter Hewes, along with eight grandchildren. She also leaves five siblings, Joan T. Bishop of Gloucester, Mass.; Barbara Clay, Anne Coacher, Kay Ralston, and brother, Frank MClatchy Jr., all of Philadelphia.

    Essex — Mildred Adele (Crossley) Oliver, 90, of Story Street, Essex, wife of Arthur H. Oliver Jr., died Wednesday, May 8, 2013, at her Essex home following a long illness. Born in Malden, July 14, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Henry F. and Gertrude (Hood) Crossley Sr. Millie grew up in the Revere Beach Section of Revere and was a 1941 graduate of Revere High School. During the years of World War II she was employed at General Electric in West Lynn where she met her future husband. Married on January 15, 1952, at St. Theresa’s Church in Revere, the Oliver’s made their home in Essex and raised a family. Millie loved Essex, and was always involved in local activities. She was President of the Women’s Club at St. John the Baptist Church of Essex, where she also taught Sunday School and over the years worked at countless church fairs and auctions. She was a member of the Essex Historical Society, a volunteer at the Essex Elementary School and T.O.H.P Burnham Public Libraries, and was a long time member of Friends of the Library. She worked at town elections for many years, taking and counting ballots. She always loved the opportunity to see everyone in town in one day! Millie received the Essex Pride Award in 1989. At home she enjoyed furniture refinishing and chair caning, which she learned at adult education classes at Essex Elementary. She also loved singing, playing the piano and the ukulele. Following Arthur’s retirement in 1984, they traveled extensively, including cruises to Alaska, Hawaii, Europe, and the Caribbean, including the Panama Canal. Their favorite cruises were their many steamboat trips on the Mississippi and Ohio Rivers.
