Rockport, MA — Helen M. (McCabe) Goode, 92, passed away peacefully at her home in Rockport ,Mass., surrounded by her family, on September 28, 2013.
Born in Hicksville, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Edward and Cecelia McCabe. She was a member of the National Honor Society in high school, and graduated at the age of 16. After graduation, Helen worked for several years in New York City as a secretary in the Empire State Building.
Married in 1947 in St Ignatius Church in Hicksville, Helen and her husband, Adrian F. Goode, enjoyed 52 years of happy marriage raising their eight children in Port Jefferson, N.Y. In later years, they moved to Hudson, N.Y., and owned and operated an apple orchard. When Adrian passed away in 1999, Helen moved to Nantucket, Mass., to live closer to her children and younger grandchildren. She resided there for 12 years, and recently relocated to Rockport.
Helen enjoyed her family. She loved cooking and baking for them, and was an avid reader. She was a member of St. Mary's Our Lady of The Isle parish in Nantucket, where she made many friends.
She is survived by her sister, Evelyn Kinney of Smithtown, N.Y.; her children, daughter Mary Ercolino and her husband ,Robert Ercolino of Port Jefferson, Station, N.Y., Catherine Feinberg of Rockport, Geraldine Goode of Gloucester, Christopher Goode and partner, Tony Berson of New York City, Patrick Goode of North Woodstock, N.H., Lawrence Goode and his wife, Kelly, of Concord, Mass., Aileen Kitsock and her husband, Kevin, of Nantucket; 13 grandchildren, Stephanie Taylor Ercolino, Courtney and Cecelia Ercolino, Ryan, Paul and Matthew Feinberg, Brendan, Dylan and Kai Goode, Mary, Catherine and Adrian Goode, and Emily Kitsock; and her three great-granddaughters, Paige Taylor, and Isabelle and Kashlin Feinberg.
She was predeceased by her husband, Adrian F. Goode; her son, Michael A. Goode; and her son-in-law, Mitchell P. Feinberg.
ARRANGEMENTS: Her funeral will be held from the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington Street, Gloucester, on Wednesday, October 2, at 8:45 a.m., followed by a funeral Mass celebrated in Our Lady of Good Voyage Church, 142 Prospect Street, Gloucester, at 9:30 a.m. Family and friends are cordially invited. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, today, from 6 to 8 p.m. Burial will be held on Nantucket.
