GLOUCESTER — Michael J. Cognato, 51, of Gloucester, died unexpectedly on Thursday, Feb. 24, 2011 at the Addison Gilbert Hospital following a surgical procedure several days prior.
He was born in Gloucester on April 18, 1959, son of Phyllis E. (Johnson) Cognato and the late Charles Cognato, who died in 2008. Michael was a graduate of Gloucester High School, Class of 1977.
He was employed for many years with Glenmor Oil Burner Service and later with Townsend Oil.
Michael loved listening to all genre of music, was an avid sports fan and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his mother, Phyllis E. Cognato of Gloucester; two children, Nicholas and Taylor Cognato both of Gloucester; sister, Victoria Batson and her husband Ronald of Gloucester; brother, Tony Cognato and his wife Donna of Tewksbury; nieces, Amanda Batson and Christina Cognato; nephew, Joshua Batson; his girlfriend, Julia Colborne of Saugus and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
ARRANGEMENTS: His funeral service will be held in the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington St., Gloucester on Tuesday, March 1, at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. The burial will be private. Visiting hours will precede the service on Tuesday from 9 to 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, P.O.
