Gloucester, MA — Carleton T. Geary Sr., 87, of Gloucester, husband of the late Patricia E. (Joslin) Geary, passed away on Friday morning, August 2, 2013, at the Blueberry Hill Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center in Beverly, following an extended illness. He died peacefully with his two sons by his side.
He was born in Gloucester, Mass., on August 9, 1925, and was the son of the late Harold B. and Gladys A. (Counihan) Geary.
Carleton was a graduate of Gloucester High School, Class of 1945. At the age of 2, he contracted polio and lived with this illness throughout his life.
Mr. Geary owned and operated Hoyt Refrigeration in Gloucester for many years, worked for Sozio in Revere and Danvers and later at HI Patten Sons in Lynn, retiring in 1993.
Carleton enjoyed dining out with family, taking rides around the Cape, and watching and feeding the birds. He was an avid Red Sox and Patriot fan.
He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
Mr. Geary is survived by his two sons, David E. Geary of Gloucester, and Carleton T. Geary Jr. of Alexandria, Va.; his sister, Nancy MacDonald of Beverly; his brother, Robert Geary of Gloucester; two grandchildren, Mallory and Carleton “Max” Geary III of Tulsa, Okla.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by four sisters, Gladys Nelson, Julia Noble, Marjorie Earl, and Helen Geary, and three brothers, Edward Geary, Eugene Geary and Harold Geary Jr.
ARRANGEMENTS: In keeping with his wishes, there are no funeral services and burial will be private. Visiting hours in the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington St., Gloucester, will be held on Tuesday, August 6, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend.
