GLOUCESTER, MA — Lawrence J. Partridge, Jr., 69, of Gloucester, Mass., died on August 8, after a brief illness, surrounded by his family at Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers, Mass. He was born in Pittsfield, Mass., on July 9, 1944, and was the son of Lawrence J. Partridge Sr. and Mary (Buksa) Partridge. He was a graduate of Pittsfield High School, and earned his Bachelor of Science in civil engineering at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. He graduated with an masters in civil engineering/environmental studies from North Carolina State University, and a Doctor of Science from Harvard University School of Public Health. Additionally, he attended the business program at the Sloan School of Management, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, Mass. Larry worked for Camp, Dresser and McKee in Boston, and retired as a vice-president at Arthur D. Little Management Consulting Firm, Cambridge. For several years, he consulted, and also taught classes at Tufts University, focusing on the control of material spills, landfill studies and solid waste management, and was a contributor to several scientific journals.
An accomplished golfer, he played at the Berkshire Country Club in Pittsfield, and was a member of the Ipswich Country Club, Ipswich, Mass. Larry lived in the towns of Hamilton and Wenham, Mass., before moving to his home in Gloucester.
He is survived by his three children, Melissa L. Partridge of Newburyport, Mass., Heather L. (Partridge) Richard of Essex, Mass., and her husband, Michael, and L. John Partridge III, of Ipswich. Also he leaves his brother, Daniel P. Partridge and his wife, Sally, of Pittsfield, Mass.; an aunt, Rita Buksa (wife of the late Walter), and aunt, Sofe (Buksa) Buckson of Portsmouth, N.H., and her husband, Dan; and many cousins. Larry was the grandfather of Hadleigh, Henry and Tess Richard of Essex, and the uncle of Caitlin and Cara Partridge of Pittsfield. He was predeceased by his father, Lawrence Partridge Sr., and by his mother, Mary (Buksa) Partridge of Pittsfield, and several aunts and uncles. He was the former husband of Erica (Everett) Partridge, currently of Gloucester, and Jean L. (Hammersley) Partridge, of Ipswich.
