Melrose — Mr. Robert M. “Bob” Hedetniemi, age 74, of Melrose formerly of Lynn, died Saturday morning in his home after a lengthy illness. He was the beloved husband of Linda (Joseph) Hedetniemi, with whom he shared 50 years of marriage.
Born in Gloucester, Bob was the son of the late Onni M. Hedetniemi and Helen M. (Langley) Dawson. He attended Gloucester Schools and was a graduate of Gloucester High School. He later received his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Salem State University. He enlisted in the United States Navy and proudly served his country from 1955-1959.
Prior to his retirement, Bob worked as a computer programmer and systems analyst for the First National Bank, General Electric and the Associated Testing Labs.
Well known for his sense of humor, Bob was a great storyteller and joke teller to his family, friends and neighbors. He enjoyed sports and was a good ping pong player. An avid reader, he also enjoyed wintering in Florida, but the main focus of his life was spending time with his family, especially his two grandsons.
In addition to his wife, Bob leaves his children, Donna Reeves and her husband John of Danvers and Michael Hedetniemi and his wife Ran Ku of Melrose. He was the loving Grandfather to Matthew Reeves and Jack Hedetniemi. He was the brother to Diane Dawson and her spouse Sylvia Selfridge of Rockport.
ARRANGEMENTS: Bob’s Funeral Service will be held in the CUFFE-MCGINN FUNERAL HOME, 157 Maple St. Lynn on Wednesday at 11:00AM. Relatives and friends invited. Interment will be private.
