Sandpoint, Idaho — Brooks “Jerry” Stevens III, 86, passed away on Monday, November 19, 2012 in Sandpoint, Idaho.
Jerry was born on October 8, 1926 in Boston, to Janet and Brooks Stevens, Jr. He grew up in Concord, attended boarding schools in New England, and did course work at the University of Washington. His passion for sailing began in his childhood years and continued throughout his life. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
During his business life Jerry worked for Boeing, Riggs and Lombard, and Ames Textiles. He was the owner-operator of Rockport Twine and Rope in Gloucester, where he manufactured and sold rope to lobstermen.
In 1952 he married Pat Knox and they had three children. He married Judith Larson in 1969. In 2005 he married Joy Snyder and they relocated to Sagle, ID. Jerry belonged to the Sandpoint Sailing Association, Seattle Yacht Club, and was a past Mason. He enjoyed telling stories, sailing, fishing, and photography.
He is survived by his wife, Joy Stevens, of Sagle, Idaho; four children, Deborah Stevens of New Hampshire, Brooks Stevens IV and his wife, Susan, of Montana, Mark Stevens of North Carolina, and Andrew “Mac” Stevens (adopted) and his wife, Pam, of Massachusetts; four grandchildren; one brother, Derwin Stevens of Vermont and his wife, Bonnie; two nieces and four nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Janet Stevens Read.
