Rye Beach, NH — Martha M. Carpenter, 90, of Rye Beach, died Tuesday, November 27, 2012 at her home after a period of failing health.
She was born September 13, 1922 in Malden, Mass., a daughter of the late Albert and Margaret (Cassidy) MacDowell.
She was a graduate of Newton, Mass. High School and of Emerson College in Boston, Mass. She was a veteran of WW II serving in the US Navy Reserves (Waves) as Yeoman Second Class.
Ms. Carpenter was a philanthropist and artist. She travelled the world enjoying her round the world trips. She enjoyed volunteer work at Children’s Hospital in Boston and had a love for playing tennis. Her passion was painting and her work was on exhibit in Paris, France in her earlier years.
Martha was extremely generous in giving to her nieces and nephews, especially in their pursuit of education.
During her lifetime she lived in Sugar Bush, Vermont, Boston, Mass., Paris, France, Barcelona, Spain to the islands of Hawaii and St. Croix, Bermuda and enjoyed spending summers in Rockport, Msss. She made her home in Rye Beach the past 48 years.
Family members include her sister, Lois Bryant of Brewster, Mass., several nieces, nephews and their families.
She was predeceased by her sisters, Bernice Foley and Alberta Frisbee and her brother, Richard MacDowell.
