Gloucester, MA — Rosalie M. (Gagliano) Ciaramitaro, 86, of Gloucester, wife of the late Joseph “Joe Popcorn” Ciaramitaro passed away on Wednesday, May 23, 2012 at her home surrounded by her family.
She was born in Worcester, MA on February 9, 1926, daughter of the late Francesco and Eleanora (Gagliano) Gagliano.
Rose was a graduate of Gloucester High School with the Class of 1942.
In her earlier years, she worked for Art Jewelers as their bookkeeper for several years and later she met and married Joe, and they owned and operated Pat’s Center Grocery, having worked together for 37 years.
For many years they wintered in Florida, where she was on the Board for Arts and Crafts and the Secretary for the Pine Point Villas in Boynton, Beach, Florida. She also was a member of the Sons of Italy, Madonna del Rosario Society, the Mother of Grace Club and the Seafood Retirees.
Rose enjoyed ceramics, sewing, crocheting, arts and crafts, bowling, playing cards and dancing.
She loved watching her husband walk in the St. Peters Fiesta Procession. She love getting her family together on Sundays and going out for breakfast and going out to dinner every Wednesday.
Rose was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She adored all of her grandchildren.
She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by 5 children, Patricia Ciaramitaro and her husband Benjamin “Libby” Ciaramitaro, Anthony Ciaramitaro and his fiancé Louisa MacIntosh, Eleanor (Ciaramitaro) Curcuru and her husband Anthony Curcuru, Frank Ciaramitaro and his wife Leanne (DaSilva) Ciaramitaro, Regina Ciaramitaro and her partner, Alex Fleming and Karen (O’Brien) Ciaramitaro all of Gloucester; 9 grandchildren, Joey Ciaramitaro and his wife Jill (Fucillo), Felicia (Ciaramitaro) Mohan and her husband Barry Mohan, Amy (Ciaramitaro) Thomas and her husband Bill Thomas, Alison Ciaramitaro, Alissa Curcuru, Anthony Curcuru Jr. and his fiancé Diane Swisher, Frank Ciaramitaro Jr., Jessica Ciaramitaro, Monique Langley and Zachary Ciaramitaro; 5 great-grandchildren, B.J. and Amanda Mohan, Eloise and Madeline Ciaramitaro and Phoenix Curcuru and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by 2 sisters, Santa “Sally” Piscatello and her husband John and Vincie Militello and her husband Michael Militello; 2 brothers, Nicholas Gagliano and his wife Lena and Anthony Gaglian and his wife Rosalie and her in laws, Antonio, Pietra and Frances Ciaramitaro.
ARRANGEMENTS: Her funeral will be held from the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington St., Gloucester on Thursday morning, May 31, at 9:45 a.m. followed by a Mass in St. Ann’s Church, Holy Family Parish at 10:30 a.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend.
The burial will be held in Calvary Cemetery, Gloucester.
Visiting hours in the Greely Funeral Home are on Wednesday from 4 – 8 p.m.
