Marilyn J. Wheelock, 80

Manchester by the Sea — Marilyn J. (Easton) Wheelock, 80, of Manchester, wife of the late Philip J. Wheelock, passed away peacefully on August 2, 2013, surrounded by her family, friends and beloved dogs. She was born in Plainville, Conn., on January 4, 1933, and was the daughter of the late Frank and Linda (Brown) Eaton. Marilyn was the youngest of 5 daughters born to Frank and Linda. She was “the surprise” baby of the family having been born 18 years later than her closest sibling. She worked for many years at Stanley Works in New Britain, Conn., as a Human Resources Manager. She moved to Magnolia/Manchester in 1960 and loved the area so much she decided to stay. She was a hostess for many years at the Surf Restaurant where she met and married her husband, Phil. She was a devoted wife and mother. She enjoyed tennis, boating, traveling and especially entertaining friends and family at the beach. After raising her daughter, Marilyn worked for many years in advertising with the Essex County Newspapers. After leaving there she found what would be her true calling as the Assistant Town Clerk in Manchester. Once she retired, she and Phil took some time to travel before his death in 2006.

Marilyn is survived by her daughter, Linda Wheelock and son-in-law, Daniel Whitten of Manchester and his 3 daughters, Jennifer, Stacey and Brittany Whitten; grandchildren, Madison and Ryan of Rockport; four generations of nieces and nephews from all over the country and countless dear friends. Our family is extremely grateful to her niece, Michele Stuart, and longtime friend, Sheila McCarthy.

She was predeceased by her sisters, Beatrice Stuart, Florence Risto, Reatha Bean and Grace Recor.

ARRANGEMENTS: A celebration of her life will be held at the Campbell-Lee, Moody, Russell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot St., North Beverly on Saturday, August 10, at 10:30 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend and may visit with her family prior to the service from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Manchester.
