Filippina Gabriele, 84


Gloucester, MA — Filippina (LoGrande) Gabriele, 84, wife of the late Natale Gabriele, passed away on Wednesday, August 14, 2013, at the Addison Gilbert Hospital.

Born in Trappeto, Sicily on August 7, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Guiseppe “Pepe” and Girolama (Macchiano) LoGrande.

As a young lady, Filippina had worked as a stitcher at Mighty Mac and Strong Leather for several years. She was an excellent seamstress and enjoyed crocheting. For many years, she had made clothing and other items for her family and friends. She was also an accomplished cook and loved having her family at her home for Sunday dinners and holidays.

Filippina was very strong in her Catholic faith and truly enjoyed attending many Novenas throughout the years. She was also a lifelong member of the Sons of Italy, the Madonna del Rosario Society, Mother of Grace Club and the Figlia Di Trappeto.

Filippina was extremely devoted to her family and her love and attention to them and her friends will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her two daughters, Josephine Paul and husband, Larry, Geraldine Erwin and husband, Michael; grandchildren, Nathan “Natale” Gabriele and his companion, Melanie, Natasha Gabriele, Lauren Dowling, Michael Paul, James Erwin, Christopher Paul, Lisa Paul, Kayla Erwin, Jason Erwin; great-grandchildren, Ryan, Kevin, Andrew, and Amaiah Gabriele, Kaysha Roberts, Athena Johnsen, Michael and Benjamin Dowling; her brother, Michele LoGrande of Sicily; niece, Franca; nephew, Busty; many cousins, friends and her beloved dog, Cali.

She was predeceased by her husband, Natale, whom she shared 53 years of marriage; and her son, Peter Gabriele.

ARRANGEMENTS: Her funeral service will be held from the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington St., Gloucester on Tuesday, August 20, at 9:45 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass in St. Ann’s Church on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. Family and friends are cordially invited to attend.

Visiting hours will be held on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. The burial will be held in Calvary Cemetery.
