South Hamilton — John E. Anderson (aka “Jack”) passed away unexpectedly on June 21, 2012 while surrounded by his family. Married 42 years to Marilyn Jeanne (Hotchkiss); born and raised in Gloucester, son of Vincent J. Anderson and Edith A. Burgess. Survived by two daughters; Tanya Anderson of Nashua, NH and Erika O’Neill along with her husband Richard and their daughter, Gracelyn of Lynn, MA and six siblings; Robert Anderson and wife Ann of Ocklawaha, FL; June Lucas and husband Jack of Rockport, MA; Carol Hubbard and husband Bill of Gloucester, MA; Gordon Anderson and his late wife Dorothy of Gloucester, MA; Tom Anderson of Beverly, MA and Sharon Millitello and her husband Anthony of Gloucester, MA along with many, many nieces, nephews and their families.
Stripped of his dream of playing football at the age of 16 when stricken with polio, Jack returned to the field a year later to captain the Gloucester Fisherman from the sideline. Proving he could not be slowed down, Jack went on to obtain his college degree then worked as Office Manager for Park Haggerty Volkswagen in Lawrence for 13 years where he partied with the 1972 Boston Bruins as they celebrated their Stanley Cup win. Jack then worked as a self-employed tax accountant until the age of 71 when sidelined once again by a sudden stroke.
Jack was an avid lover of anything to do with speed; often seen terrorizing the waters of Cape Ann and Lake Winnipesaukee in his boat, The Bookie. Traveling was a favorite pastime with family and friends seeking out the next adventure - Key West, Ft. Lauderdale and the track at Loudon will never be the same without “Wheelchair Jack”! YOOOOO!!!
