Sarah Holmes Turner, 91


Gloucester — Sarah Holmes Turner, age 91, wife of Edward L. Turner of East Gloucester, died peacefully on March 3, 2013.

Sarah was born in Gloucester, on December 17, 1921. She was the daughter of the late, Lester and Catherine Holmes; sister of the late, James (Rocky) Holmes, Elizabeth Howard and George Holmes.

Sarah graduated from Gloucester High School in 1939 and was a charter member of the National Honor Society. She worked as an operator for New England Telephone. A life-long resident of Gloucester, she devoted herself to her family. She enjoyed Good Harbor Beach and Newfound Lake. Ed and Sarah spent many winters in Sun City, Fla. She loved art and shopping for antiques and hat pins. Sarah and Ed travel extensively and especially enjoyed cruises. Sarah encouraged children to read, work hard in school and follow their dreams.

Sarah is survived by Edward L. Turner, her devoted husband of 67 years and her children and their families, Rosalyn Ideus and husband, Robert of Houston, Texas, Patricia Gomez and husband, Odillo of Cooper City, Fla.; granddaughters, Marisa Gomez and Elizabeth Gomez, SarahJane Elsinger wife of George of Washington Crossing, Pa.; step-grandchildren, Deborah Elsinger and husband, Fred of Shrewsbury, N.J., Dr. Richard Elsinger of Coltsneck, N.J., Karen Pease of Whiting, N.J.; step-great granddaughters, Jaclyn, Samantha and Taylor, Barbara Romano and husband, Albert of Jackson, N.J., Robert Elsinger and wife, Lisa of Manalapan, N.J.; step-great grandsons, Steven, Kenneth Elsinger and wife, Lisa of Millstone, N.J.; granddaughter, Megan Linehan of Southborough, and Edward Turner of Washington, D.C. Sarah is also survived by her cousin, Nancy Holmes; many nieces, nephews and their families. She was predeceased by her daughter, Jeanne Linehan of Gloucester, and by her grandson, Keith Cruzan.

ARRANGEMENTS: Private services were held at the James Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington Street, Gloucester and interment was held in Beechbrook Cemetery.
