Leonard Amaral, 76


Gloucester — Leonard Frank Amaral, age 76, formerly of Gloucester, passed away unexpectedly on March 15, 2013, at his home in Homosassa Fla.

He was born on January 12, 1937 in Gloucester, son of the late, Leonard R and Margaret (Greel) Amaral, where he grew up and lived for 38 years before moving to Hampstead, N.H. and then Florida. He was a graduate of Gloucester High School, class of 1956, as a member of the ROTC Program and the Rifle Team and East Coast Aero Technical School. He was a loyal member of Our Lady of Good Voyage Church, the DES and the Knights of Columbus. Lenny also served in the National Guard for eight years. Lenny loved airplanes and spent many years working for Eastern Airlines, TWA and Sikorsky Aircraft. He also worked for Omega Aircraft where he was part of a design team that designed a prototype helicopter. Lenny also worked for many branches of Ward Weller in both New Hampshire and Florida. Lenny moved to Citrus County 27 years ago from New Hampshire, where he retired as a salesman and was a member of St. Scholastica Catholic Church. He was an avid boater and loved fishing, hunting, golfing, tennis and enjoyed looking up family ancestry.

Lenny is survived by his wife, Phyllis M. Amaral; three children, Russell (Rusty) Amaral and his wife, Julie of Rockport, Donna (Amaral)Clifford and husband, Robert Sr. of Jackson N.J., David Amaral and his wife, Holly of Gloucester; and four stepchildren, Pamela Gallant, Nancy Miller, Suzanne Brown and Scott Smith; one brother, Stephen W. Amaral and his wife, Josephine (Cognato) of Wolfboro N.H.; his first wife, Cynthia (Rose) Amaral of Gloucester; eleven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews including his very special niece and nephew Jacqueline (Amaral) Marotta of Wolfboro, N.H. and Stephen Amaral Jr. of Gloucester.
