Gloucester, MA — Mary G. (Calomo) D’Amico, 95, wife of the late Joseph D’Amico, of Gloucester, passed away on Monday, April 8, 2013, surrounded by her loving family at the Addison Gilbert Hospital.
Born in Sicily on November 25, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Michael Calomo, who died during World War I and Ida (Parco) and Samuel Scola.
Mary was educated in Gloucester. The family gatherings on holidays and special occasions were all full of fun, laughter, specialty dinners, delicious desserts and great stories of old.
Mary volunteered for several years at the Addison Gilbert Hospital’s Gift Shop and Coffee Shop. She was also involved in making lap blankets at the Senior Center for the veterans overseas. She was an avid bingo player and enjoyed her trips to Foxwoods with her friends. Throughout her lifetime, Mary traveled to many places including Europe, Australia, Mexico, Aruba, Hawaii, the Caribbean Islands, Virgin Islands and various places in the United States.
Mary was very active in numerous organizations to include the Madonna del Rosario Society, Mother of Grace Club, Fishermen’s Wives Association and Seafood Retirees Association. She was also a member of St. Ann’s Church, Holy Family Parish and Our Lady of Good Voyage Church Women’s Guild.
Mary was well known for her grace, kind heartedness and strong faith. Throughout her life, she was always willing to give of herself, especially to her family whom she adored. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her three children, Angela Ciaramitaro, wife of the late Charles J. Ciaramitaro, Ida Chambers and husband Capt. William Chambers, Anthony D’Amico and wife Debra; grandchildren, Felicia A. Trupiano and husband Christopher, Frank A. Ciaramitaro and wife Jennifer, Joseph F. Chambers and wife Karen, Maria A. Chambers and partner Jeannie Chambers, Karen Guillemette and husband Jay, Malia F. D’Amico, Frank A. D’Amico, Lacey M. D’Amico and fiancé David Curcuru, Joseph P. D’Amico and wife Claudia; great-grandchildren, Christopher Trupiano, Jeffrey Legendre, Charlie Legendre and girlfriend, Meaghan McGillivray, Jessica Legendre and fiancé Al Delisi, Logan Trupiano, Brynne Trupiano, Tayla Lee Ciaramitaro, Max Ciaramitaro, Timothy Chambers, Sarah Chambers; great-great grandchildren, Joseph Legendre and Henry Lee Chambers; sisters-in-law, Grace Scola, Carmella Fronteiro, Carmella Scola; brother-in-law, Steve D’Amico and many, many nieces and nephews.
