Manchester by the Sea — Annette Gignoux Olney died peacefully at her home, on January 13, 2013, after a brief illness. She was born in Great Neck Village, N.Y., on October 9, 1919, and spent her childhood in Champtocé sur Loire, France. Upon the death of her mother in 1932, Annette moved to the United States and lived with the Olney family. She married Austin Olney in 1945. In 1948 they moved to Manchester where she lived for 65 years.
Her love of children and books, led her to the library at Manchester Memorial School, where she served as librarian and volunteer for 50 years. Annette was also an active member of the Friends of the Visiting Nurse Associates of the North Shore for over 30 years and during the 1970s she served as a member of the Manchester School Committee. In 2005, she was named “Volunteer of the Year” by the Manchester Selectmen, an award she cherished.
She leaves her son, Christopher and his wife, Mary Jane, of Wenham; daughters, Elise Dudley and her husband, James of Manchester, Sylvie Rice, and her husband, Benjamin of Keene, N.H., and Claudia Olney and her husband, Dean Yoshina of Chimacum, Wash. Her daughter, Vrylena, pre-deceased her in 2009. In addition to her children, she leaves nine grandchildren (Anton Glovsky, Nadia Borysenko, Nicholas Olney, Anne Bevan, Jennifer and Liza Dudley, Anita and Margaret Rice, and Anda Yoshina); seven great-grandsons, and a very large and loving extended family here and in England and France.
She was an avid gardener, knitter, and loved entertaining her many friends and relatives from here and abroad at her home.
ARRANGEMENTS: Friends and family are invited to a celebration of her life which will be held at 11 a.m., on Saturday, January 19, 2013, at Tupper Manor, 295 Hale St., Beverly.
