Gloucester — David A. Sears, 76, husband of the late Nina M. (Bouchie) Sears, of Gloucester, passed away on Friday, January 18, 2013 at the Addison Gilbert Hospital. Born in Gloucester on December 17, 1936, he was the son of the late Capt. Raymond Sears and Emma E. (Perry) Sears.
David attended Gloucester High School and had served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. As a young man, David enjoyed working on boats at the Gloucester Railways and later worked as a machinist at the Walbar and then for Gloucester Ice. He later worked as a maintenance man for Gorton’s of Gloucester for 20 years before retiring. In his spare time, David was an avid painter and enjoyed carving boats and was known to be an authority on historic Gloucester boats.
He was very strong in his faith and was a very active member of Our Lady of Good Voyage Church. He had served as a long time Eucharistic Minister, held the Crown as an Emporator three times and was a long time member and past president of the Holy Name Society. He was a member of the DES Club and former member of the Knights of Columbus and the Gloucester Drum Corp.
Above all, David was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He loved the time he had to spend with his family, especially during the holiday season, and will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his five children, David Sears Jr. and wife, Etta of Fremont, N.H;. and his son, Zachary from a former marriage, Annmarie Barr and husband, Robert of Gloucester and their children, Robert Jr. and wife, Krystle, Kristie and Justin, Emma Sauve and husband, Joseph Jr. of Gloucester and their children, Joseph III, Jessica and Stephanie, Antone Sears and wife, Beth of Gloucester and their children, Brittany, Ryan, Hannah and Allison, Marc Sears and wife, Maggie of Essex and their children, Owen, Marc Jr. and Willa; four great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Patricia Knowlton and husband, David of Gloucester; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his beloved wife Nina of 55 years, who had passed away in June 2012, he was predeceased by his brother, Raymond Sears Jr.; sister-in-law Sylvia Fears and husband, Paul; and brothers-in-law Albert and Edward Bouchie.
ARRANGEMENTS: A memorial Mass will be celebrated in Our Lady of Good Voyage on Wednesday, January 23 at 9:30 a.m. Family and friends are cordially invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington Street, Gloucester. The burial will be held in Calvary Cemetery.
