Elizabeth Sampson, 85


Ipswich — Elizabeth B. “Betsy” Sampson, 85, of Ipswich, died Sunday, September 10, at Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers.

She was born in Gloucester, August 4, 1927, the daughter of the late Irving L. and Mary (MacLean) Morris. Raised in Gloucester, she graduated from Gloucester High School with the Class of 1945 and later received her bachelor and master degrees from Salem State College.

Mrs. Sampson taught elementary education within the Gloucester school system for 20 years retiring in 1970. She was a former member of the Massachusetts Teachers Association and enjoyed traveling.

She lived her life in Gloucester before making her home in Ipswich in 2002, where she became a communicant of the Ascension Memorial Episcopal Church.

She shared 47 years of marriage with her husband, Robert L. Sampson of Ipswich. In addition to her husband, family members include her son, Timothy B. Sampson and wife Nicole Legendre of Fremont, NH; three grandchildren, Micaela, Hannah and Jessica; her brother, Irving L. Morris, Jr. and wife Ellen of Simsbury, Conn.; her niece, Julia Morris Ogden and husband Stephen; and two great nephews, Malcolm and Christopher.
