Worcester — Leo J. Marc-Aurele, 86, of Worcester, passed away peacefully at his daughter’s home in Rockport, Monday, September 17, with his beloved family at his side.
He is predeceased by his beloved wife of 67 years, Thelma (Bourke) Marc-Aurele.
Leo was born in Worcester on December 13, 1925, the son of the late Joseph L.R. and Albinie (Dubois) Marc-Aurele. He lived in Worcester and Berlin, Mass. before moving to Barefoot Bay, Fla. Leo attended St. John Preparatory High School and married Thelma (Bourke) on January 9, 1943.
Leo was a career Navy man, joining the armed forces in 1943 and retiring in 1970. Leo served in World War II (Atlantic and Pacific Theatres), the Korean War, and was active during the Vietnam War. Leo was a founding member of the Albany Association and is a Chartered and Meritorious Life member.
Leo proudly served aboard convoy vessels as a member of the armed guard during World War II, the USS Albany, Accokeek, Aldebaran and Charles F. Adams.
Leo was a member of several churches, St. Andrews of Worcester, St. Joseph of Worcester, St. Joseph of Berlin and St. Luke of Barefoot Bay, Fla.
Leo leaves behind nine children, Paul L. and his wife, Margaret, Carol Hanson and her husband Robert, Robert L. and his wife Nancy, Denise L. Bosma and her husband Allen, Joseph and his wife, Angela, Elaine Boone and her husband, Jake, Jean Gates and her husband Robert, Anne Marie Trupiano and her husband Jerome and John P. and his wife Lynda; 32 grandchildren, Paul Marc-Aurele, John (Jack) F. Marc-Aurele, Andrew Marc-Aurele and his wife Beth, Donna Adair, Kristen Beck and her husband Mike, Scott Hanson, Brian Hanson, Jenniffer Hanson, Robert Malone, Anthony Marc-Aurele, Andrea Marc-Aurele, Michael and Jacqui White, Deanna White and Shawn MacInnes, Courtney and Luis Encarnacion, Kyle Bosma, Kayne Bosma and his wife, Jennifer, Kevyn Bosma and his wife, Shannon, Kelly Thompson, Renee Trupiano and her husband Michael, Christopher Boone and his wife Joy, Erin Shelton and her husband Jeff, Jason Gates and his wife Veronica, Michele Gates, Sonja and George Senecal, Kevin Latraverse, Leo Latraverse, Andrew Trupiano, Jenessa Trupiano, Elizabeth Marc-Aurele, Daniel Marc-Aurele, Zachary Marc-Aurele and Alison Marc-Aurele. Leo leaves behind his brother, Louis Marc-Aurele and his wife Carol; his sister, Lucille O’Connell and her husband William and his brother-in-law, Robert Vachon. Leo had 34 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Leo was predeceased by his sister, Lorraine Vachon.
ARRANGEMENTS: The family will be holding a private burial service at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial contributions be made in his name to the USS Albany Association, 19 Preston Field Road, Nashua NH 03064.
