Alice Frost Seager, 76, of Rockport, passed away on Saturday evening, Jan. 28, 2012, at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Boston, surrounded by her family.
Born in Winchester, Mass., on July 22, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Walter Ewart and Louise (Packer) Seager.
Alice was raised in Winchester and Washington, D.C., and lived briefly in Vancouver, British Columbia. As a child she spent her summer vacations at the family house in the Land's End part of Rockport with her many aunts, uncles and cousins. She was a graduate of National Cathedral School in Washington, D.C. She attended the University of Michigan, Harbor Community College in Los Angeles and also completed courses at Harvard University. She lived with her family for many years in the Southern California community of Rancho Palos Verdes prior to residing permanently in Rockport.
Alice worked for more than 20 years as an accountant for Varian in Gloucester before retiring. She met many people at Varian that became lifelong friends and whose close and loyal friendship enriched her retirement years.
She was very active in the Cape Ann community as a volunteer for Senior Care in Gloucester and was one of the original members who organized the First Night celebration in Rockport. She was active in Democratic Party political committees and a volunteer for HAWC.
Alice enjoyed reading, gardening, music, creative writing and participating in her improv group in Beverly. She was a wonderful storyteller and would often regale her friends and family with tales from her youth. In retirement, she made several trips to the Algarve region of Portugal and loved that area as a vacation spot.
Alice is survived by her son, Simon T. Dillon and his wife Diane of Danvers; her son, Alden P. Brigham; grandchildren, Megan L. and Zachary S. Dillon; her brother, John W.P. Seager; a nephew and nieces. She also leaves her cousin, Elizabeth L. Giraud and husband Jean-Pierre Giraud of Orangeville, Canada.
