Gloucester, MA — Louis Brown III, 69, of Gloucester passed away peacefully on Monday, September 16, 2013, under the care of Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers. Louis, better known as "Louie," "Lou," or "Big Lou," to family and friends, was born in Gloucester on August 4, 1944, to the late Capt. Louis Brown Jr. and Evelyn C. Brown.

Lou graduated from Gloucester High School in 1962, and went on to graduate from Brewster Academy, and earned his Bachelor of Science degree at Suffolk University. After serving in the Coast Guard Reserves, Louie worked for H.P. Hood for a year before joining Xerox in 1969. He was a senior sales executive with Xerox until retiring in 2007. In 1983, Louie was elected to the board of directors for Bank Gloucester. He served as a director on the bank’s board for 30 years, right up until the time of his death. He was a 30-year member of the Bass Rocks Golf Club, and lifetime member of the Gloucester Lodge of Elks #892.

Louie, a devoted family man, was married to his high school sweetheart, Sheila (DuPont) Brown, for 46 years. He was also the proud father of Christopher Brown and Colleen Brown, and “Papa” to his beloved granddaughter, Kayla Padre.

In addition to his wife, children, and granddaughter, Lou is survived by his brother, Ivan Brown and his wife, Sally, of Rockport; nephew, Brendan Brown of Gloucester; sister-in-law, Colleen Jourdenais and husband, Richard, of Oregon; and niece, Kate Westfall of Oregon.

Louie was predeceased by his nephew, Ryan Jourdenais, also of Oregon.

Lou was a well-known and respected, lifelong resident of Gloucester. He will be missed by all those who knew and loved him.

ARRANGEMENTS: His Funeral Mass will be celebrated in Our Lady of Good Voyage Church, on Saturday, September 21, at 9:30 a.m. Family and friends are cordially invited to attend.
