Gloucester, MA — Marie Antoinette (Aiello) Militello, 92, a lifelong resident of Gloucester, wife of the late Captain Frank P. Militello, passed away on June 4, 2012 at the Seacoast Nursing and Rehabilitation Center surrounded by her family.
She was born in Gloucester on February 1, 1920, daughter of the late Vito and Maria (Militello) Aiello. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
Antoinette attended St. Ann’s School. Throughout her life she worked for many of Gloucester landmark-businesses, including Birdseye Seafood, Mighty Mac, Captain Joe’s, Addison Gilbert Hospital and Tompkins Furniture. She was a member of the Madonna Del Rosario Society, Mother of Grace Club, St. Peter’s and Seafood Retirees.
She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, playing cards, bingo, pokeno club night with her sisters and friends, singing old Italian songs to her grandchildren and dancing.
She loved her Sunday family gatherings. She was a wonderful and versatile cook and many still rave about her food. She enjoyed entertaining family, friends and her children’s friends. Her door was always open and everyone left her house full and happy.
She is survived by her six children, Josephine Anderson and her companion Richard Royer, Anthony Militello and his wife Patricia, Vito Militello and his wife Marsha, Michael Militello and his companion Wendi Marschall, Geraldine Cluney and companion Chet Ernest, all of Gloucester, John Militello of Los Angeles; 18 grandchildren, Eric Anderson and wife Rosalie, Leslie Higgins and husband Will, Mark Brown and wife Linda, Gary Brown and wife Deanna, Annette Ramsay and husband Toby, Darryl Brown and wife Kaly, Frank R. Militello, Cynthia Sonia and husband Robert, Frank M. Militello and wife Colleen, Richard Militello and companion Kim Schell, David Militello, Michael Militello Jr. and wife Diana, Kim Bertolino and companion Mike Oppelt, Michael Marschall, Alex Militello, Jason Bruni and wife Marsae, Julie Cluney, Jeremy Cluney; 29 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren; her sisters and their spouses, Pauline Piscitello, Rose and Sammy Demetri, Jenny Curcuru, Grace and Thomas Pallazola, Sammy and Rose Aiello; sisters-in-law Diana Aiello, AnnGrace Militello, Rosalia Militello, Catherine and John Cusamano; and many, many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband Frank, she was predeceased by her daughter Mary P. Brown, wife of Daniel Brown; parents Vito and Maria Aiello; two sons-in-law, John L. Anderson and George Cluney; grandson John L. Anderson III; mother and father-in-law Anthony and Crocefissa Militello; a sister Mary; her brothers Anthony, Joseph and John Aiello; and in-laws Lena Aiello, James Curcuru, Joseph Piscitello, Salvatore Militello, Santo Militello, Michael and Vincie Militello, Matteo and Caterina Militello, Gerolama and Matteo Groppo and godson Vito Aiello.
ARRANGEMENTS: Her funeral will be held from the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington Street, Gloucester, on Friday, June 8th at 9:45 a.m. followed by a funeral mass in St. Ann’s Church on Friday at 10:30 a.m. Family and friends are cordially invited to attend.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
The burial will be held in Calvary Cemetery.
