Florida — Kip Parady, formerly of Essex, passed away peacefully at home in Lehigh Acres, Florida on September 29th. He was born in Gloucester on April 17, 1921, to Ardrith M. and Alfred W. Parady. One of nine children. Kip grew up in Gloucester and graduated from Gloucester High School, class of 1939; then moved to Essex in 1942 when he married the former Marjorie (Midge) Cook. Following his service in the U.S. Navy during World War II, Kip worked in the insurance business and as a real estate agent. In 1961 he purchased the Ship Ahoy Restaurant in Essex and operated it with Midge and his four sons for more than twenty years, providing many local teenagers with their first jobs. In 1978 he moved to Fort Myers, FL with Midge and two of his sons and opened Ship Ahoy South in the area, offering Northern fried seafood to the delight of the “snowbirds “who flock to Florida in the winter.
After his retirement from the restaurant business he remained active in the community volunteering at Lee Memorial Hospital in Fort Myers until recent years when his health declined. Kip took up the computer in his 70’s and volunteered at a computer class for seniors, first coaching, then teaching. At his condo complex he led an aqua-size group in the community pool and organized pool parties on Friday evenings for the residents.
In addition to his loving wife, Midge, he leaves behind four devoted sons, Clifton Jr. (Cliff) of Virginia, Robert of Hamilton, Scott (with whom he and Midge had lived the past year in Florida) and Ross of Essex; also 13 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, who loved him dearly; five siblings, Shirley Saulnier of Gloucester, Joyce Vickery of Danvers, Rose Lane of Placentia, CA, Gerald Parady of Essex, Ardrith (Faye) Brophy of Essex and numerous nieces and nephews. Brother, Alfred Jr., and sisters, E. Jeannette Harvey and Margaret Bolduc, predeceased him.
Kip had a generous heart, a wonderful sense of humor and a hearty, infectious laugh that endeared him to many.
