Gloucester — Joanna M. (Cognato) Francis, 74, of Gloucester, and wife of the late Earl F. Francis, passed away on Monday, October 14, 2013, at the Seacoast Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Born in Chelsea, Mass., on August 29, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Domenic and Jennie (Palermo) Cognato.
Joanna enjoyed knitting and crocheting items for her family and friends. She was also a wonderful cook and enjoyed baking and decorating cakes. Joanna will be remembered for being a loving wife, mother and grandmother, and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her three sons and their spouses, Arthur and Nancy Francis of Danvers, Michael and Trina Francis, and Paul and Kelly Francis; grandchildren, Michael Francis Jr., and Rosa, Nicholas and Kelsey Francis; great-grandchildren, Michael III and Isaiah Francis of Gloucester; sister, Josephine Amaral and husband, Stephen, of Wolfeboro, N.H.; sisters-in-law, Sandy Monroe and husband, Kenneth, of Essex, and Martha Cognato; brother-in-law, Bernard Gerstner; special great-niece, Olivia Amaral; special cousin, Phyllis Cognato; and many loving nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband Earl, she was predeceased by her brother, Anthony Cognato; sisters-in-law, Margie Perkins, Ruth George, Mary Francis, and Shirley Gerstner; and brothers-in-law, Arthur J. Francis and Earl George.
ARRANGEMENTS: Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, October 18, at 11 a.m., in St. Ann’s Church. Family and friends are cordially invited to attend. The burial will be held in Calvary Cemetery. There are no visiting hours.
