Rockport, MA — Keva M. (Sullivan) O’Neil, 61, of Rockport, wife of Brian C. O’Neil, passed away on Saturday, November 2, 2013, at Lahey Clinic Medical Center in Burlington, following a brief illness.
She was born in Cambridge, Mass., on September 2, 1952, and was the daughter of June E. (Houghton) Sullivan and the late Francis J. Sullivan.
She was a graduate of Rockport High School, Class of 1970, and received her bachelor's degree from North Adams State College. She later attended Salem State College, where she received her K-12 Teacher’s Certificate and was a member of the Massachusetts Teacher’s Association.
Keva taught school at St. Ann’s in Gloucester and at St. Mary’s in Lynn. She later worked for the Gloucester and Rockport School Systems as both a special education assistant and a substitute teacher.
As a young adult, Keva loved to travel and took several trips on her own to Ireland, Jamaica, Aruba, and Greece. She also drove across the country with her dear friend, Jeannie, and settled in San Diego, Calif., for a year. Keva was an excellent cook and loved to garden.
Her love of children was evident in her volunteer work. Keva taught Sunday School for many years at St. Joachim's Parish and, as a member of the Rockport Memorial Day Committee, she organized the annual event after the parade for the many scouts, band members, and flower girls and flag boys, where they enjoyed Twin Light Soda and ice cream.
Family was very important to Keva and she is especially proud of her children who filled her life with joy. Keva and her husband, Brian, also shared many wonderful memories at Long Beach and on their boat, aptly named the Keva Marie. She was a caring person who always had a kind word, or a hug for those in need. She will be forever missed by her family and friends.
