Tammie A. Shatford, 41

Beverly — Tammie Annette (Cabral) Shatford, 41, wife of Brian Mathew Shatford, of Beverly, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, August 26 after a courageous battle with cancer with her beloved family at her side. Tammie fought her illness with strength, grace, and dignity.

She remained positive and never gave up. Her only concern was for her children, husband, and family. Tammie's children, Brandi and Cassie, were her pride and joy. She was a devoted mother and cherished every moment she had with her beautiful daughters. Five years ago Tammie married her childhood sweetheart and best friend Brian. They had remained friends throughout their lives. This bond brought them together and helped them overcome many difficulties. She was thankful for the precious time they had together.

Tammie had a great passion for music. She attended many concerts and especially enjoyed the Grateful Dead. Tammie's love for animals was evident through her work at the local animal shelter and her many rescued pets.

In addition to her husband Brian, Tammie is survived by her beloved daughters Brandi and Cassie Cabral; her father, Walter Cabral; her brothers, Walter and his wife Abby of Florida and Daniel Cabral; her special nieces Naomi and Katie and step-children, Corrina Shatford, Lillian and Jared Shatford Herdman. She also leaves behind her special canine companion Teddie who was forever by her side. Other family members include uncles George and Ruth Cabral; aunts, Cathy Cabral, Sharon Porter, Edie and wife Dana Brown, Pauline wife of James Santapaola, Gary Cabral husband of Tina;, special aunt and uncle Donna and Earl Unis; her uncle N. Scott MacFarland; her aunt Patricia and her husband John McCarthy; and her godson N. Michael MacFarland and many cousins.

She was predeceased by her beloved mother and best friend Cathy Cabral; grandparents, Norman and Faye MacFarland, George V. and Edna; uncles Albert and David Cabral; and her dear aunt Grace Cote.

ARRANGEMENTS: Her funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, August 31 at 9:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Good Voyage Church. Family and friends are cordially invited to attend.

Visiting hours will be held in the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington Street, Gloucester on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m.

  • Mildred Adele (Crossley) Oliver, 90

    Essex — Mildred Adele (Crossley) Oliver, 90, of Story Street, Essex, wife of Arthur H. Oliver Jr., died Wednesday, May 8, 2013, at her Essex home following a long illness. Born in Malden, July 14, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Henry F. and Gertrude (Hood) Crossley Sr. Millie grew up in the Revere Beach Section of Revere and was a 1941 graduate of Revere High School. During the years of World War II she was employed at General Electric in West Lynn where she met her future husband. Married on January 15, 1952, at St. Theresa’s Church in Revere, the Oliver’s made their home in Essex and raised a family. Millie loved Essex, and was always involved in local activities. She was President of the Women’s Club at St. John the Baptist Church of Essex, where she also taught Sunday School and over the years worked at countless church fairs and auctions. She was a member of the Essex Historical Society, a volunteer at the Essex Elementary School and T.O.H.P Burnham Public Libraries, and was a long time member of Friends of the Library. She worked at town elections for many years, taking and counting ballots. She always loved the opportunity to see everyone in town in one day! Millie received the Essex Pride Award in 1989. At home she enjoyed furniture refinishing and chair caning, which she learned at adult education classes at Essex Elementary. She also loved singing, playing the piano and the ukulele. Following Arthur’s retirement in 1984, they traveled extensively, including cruises to Alaska, Hawaii, Europe, and the Caribbean, including the Panama Canal. Their favorite cruises were their many steamboat trips on the Mississippi and Ohio Rivers.
