Gloucester — Neil D. Burns, 75, of Gloucester, passed away on the evening of March 5, 2013 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers, with his loving family at his side.
Neil was born in Gloucester, on August 17, 1937, son of the late John F. and Marion (Flynn) Burns. He was a graduate of Gloucester High School, class of 1957. In earlier days, he was employed for over ten years at the Building Center and later went to work at the New England Power Plant, retiring in 2000. Following his retirement, Neil enjoyed keeping busy by tinkering and fixing things around his house. He was an avid Patriots and Red Sox fan who looked forward to Sunday game day with the family.
Neil loved to tend to his flower garden, recreating his mother’s recipes from her old cookbook, as well as, reminiscing of his days at the power plant. Neil was a member of the Union Local 486 out of Worcester. Neil will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He was a very kind, giving and caring man who opened his home to many over the years.
He is survived by two daughters, Debra J. Burns and Cheryl A. Ciaramitaro both of Gloucester; two sons, Timothy M. Burns and his wife, Marie of North Beverly and Kevin P. Burns and his wife, Lydia of Gloucester; his former wife, Gerri, the mother of his children; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; his brother, William Burns of Gloucester; two sisters, Beatrice Kimball and her husband, Frank of Danvers and Joanne Rocha of Gloucester; sister-in-law, Marjorie Burns of Gloucester; many nieces and nephews and his two loving cats, Smokey and Little One. He was predeceased by four brothers, John “Buddy” Burns, Robert Burns, Rev. Father David Burns, Brother Thomas Burns and his sister-in-law, Marilyn Burns.
ARRANGEMENTS: His memorial mass will be celebrated in Our Lady of Good Voyage Church on Tuesday, March 12, at 9:30 a.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. The burial will be held in Calvary Cemetery, Gloucester. Visiting hours in the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington St., Gloucester will be held on Monday from 4 – 6 p.m.
