Gloucester, MA — Florence M. (Alves) Davis, 84, wife of the late Guy B. Davis, passed away on Thursday, April 25, 2013, at Seacoast Nursing Home.
Born in Gloucester on June 4, 1928, she was the daughter of Eugene and Blanche M. (Matos) Alves. Florence was a graduate of Gloucester High School, Class of 1946, and a Sawyer Medal recipient. Following graduation, she was employed as an operator by New England Telephone where she met her husband of 54 years, Guy. She married Guy in 1952 and left her employment to raise her family. She was a lifelong member of Our Lady of Good Voyage Church and a member of the Ladies’ Guild. She also served as soloist at Our Lady’s for over 20 years.
Florence is survived by her sons, Mark B. Davis and his wife, Yvonne T. (Figurido), and Kenneth E. Davis and his wife, Lisa E. (Moody); her daughter, Anita M. (Davis) and her husband, Stephen E. McCarthy, all of Gloucester; eight grandchildren, Andrew M. Davis and his wife, Jennifer D. (Doane), Jilleen T. Davis, Michael K. Davis, Jeffrey B. Davis, Lauren A. Davis, Conor H. McCarthy, Aidan B. McCarthy, and Erin B. McCarthy; her brother, Rev. Eugene L. Alves; and her sister, Blanche L. Alves.
ARRANGEMENTS: Her funeral will be held from the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington St., Gloucester, on Tuesday, April 30, 2013, at 8:45 a.m. followed by a Mass in Our Lady of Good Voyage Church at 9:30 a.m. Family and friends are cordially invited. The burial will be held in Calvary Cemetery. Her visiting hours will be held in the Greely Funeral Home on Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her name to Our Lady of Good Voyage Church, 142 Prospect St., Gloucester, MA 01930 or to the charity of one’s choice.
