Beverly — Helen Mary (Avedisian) Powers, 90, died May 3, 2013. She was born June 22, 1922, in Lawrence, Mass., to Ruth (Parks) and George Avedisian. When she was 10, she moved to her mother’s home city of Gloucester. She graduated from Gloucester High School, Class of 1939.
She was married to Dr. Francis Powers for 61 years. She assisted her husband with his podiatry office on Dale Avenue.
She loved to travel and enjoyed trips throughout the United States and abroad and ocean cruises with her daughter.
Through the years, she was active in several local organizations and also served as President of the Auxiliary to the Massachusetts Podiatry Association.
She is survived by her daughter, Mary Powers of Gloucester; three sons, Francis Powers, Jr. and his wife, Janet, of Pennsylvania, Ronald Powers and his wife, Marie, of Texas, and David Powers and his wife, Nancy, of Arizona; her grandson, Ron-Michael Powers and Anthony; three great-grandchildren, Nathaniel Powers, Alexander Hough and Sydney-Kate Hough (and their father, Shane Hough); her brother, Robert Avedisian; and many nieces and nephews, including Marjorie Burns and Lois Arnold. She was predeceased by her husband; granddaughter, Kathleen Powers Hough; daughter-in-law, Jacqueline Rowe Powers; sister, Willa Hill; and brothers, John Avedisian and George Avedisian, Jr.
ARRANGEMENTS: In keeping with her wishes, services will be private. Burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery. Donations may be made in her memory to Holy Family Parish, St. Ann Church, 70 Pleasant St., Gloucester, MA 01930.
