Barbara M. Amero, 91

Gloucester, MA — Barbara M. Amero died peacefully on Wednesday, June 12, 2013, surrounded by her family.

Barbara was born and lived in Gloucester her entire life. She was the daughter of the late Mary "Mayme" Peavey and Roy Peavey. She was predeceased by two siblings, Vivien "Lammie" Manning and Roy "Buddy" Peavey, all of Gloucester. Prior to his death in 2004, she was married to Leo Amero for 59 years, who was a former teacher at Gloucester High School. Barbara was a lifelong member of Our Lady of Good Voyage Church and the Gloucester Fraternity Club. She returned to work in her later years and enjoyed her job as a head chambermaid at the Captain's Lodge in Gloucester.

Barbara leaves four children, Donna Curcuru, Leo Amero, Scott Amero and his partner, Neal Currie, and Barbara J. Amero. Barbara was the grandmother to two grandchildren who were the light of her life. She embraced the role of grandmother as did her husband, Leo. Barbara always said what she lacked in the number of grandchildren she more than made up with in the quality of her grandchildren, Carla Kolesar and Nicholas Curcuru. Her grandchildren were her joy. She was never happier than when she was spending time with them and bragging to her contemporaries about their accomplishments. Later in life, Nicholas provided his grandmother and before that, his grandfather, with life sustaining support. Carla is now married to Matthew Kolesar and made Barbara a great-grandmother with the birth of Abby Kolesar three years ago.

She also leaves her lifelong friend, Ada Novello, whom she knew for over 70 years and was neighbor to for all of her married life. Ada and Barbara had many life experiences that they shared together over the years including working together, traveling with their husbands and supporting each other in their life as friends and neighbors. Also her dear friend, Florence Curcuru, whom she had Tuesday morning breakfast with at Charlie's Restaurant. She also leaves her friend and sister-in-law, Elinor Amero. She will also be fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors.

She is predeceased by her son-in-law, Nicholas Curcuru, who was lost at sea; sister-in-law, Janice Costoplus, Margaret Amero, Mary Peavey and brothers-in-law, John and Joe Amero.
