Gloucester, MA — Anthony Malaquias, 75, of Gloucester, Mass., passed away on June 19, 2013, in Lahey Hospital after a short illness. Anthony was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on May 7, 1938, the son of the late Antonio and Laura (Cuesta) Malaquias. He attended Gloucester High School and graduated with the Class of 1956. Tony was a dockworker for most of his life, working for Star Fisheries and Rose’s Oil Company. He was a lifetime member of the Gloucester Elks Lodge, #892, a very loyal parishioner of Our Lady of Good Voyage Church, and he was a member of their Holy Name Society. Tony is survived by his sister, Dolores Sudbay and her husband, Patrick, of Gloucester and Reading; one niece, Anne Marie Sudbay and her partner, Maura Henry, of Watertown, Mass.; three nephews, James Sudbay and his wife, Mary, of Olympia, Wash., Matthew Sudbay and his wife, Sheila, of Merrimac, Mass., and Derek Sudbay of Reading, Mass.; and four grandnieces. He also leaves a cherished longtime companion, Alice Ciaramitaro of Gloucester. Her extended family of friends, the Ciullas’ and the Parsons', also of Gloucester.
ARRANGEMENTS: His funeral will be held from the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington St., Gloucester, on Monday, June 24, at 8:45 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass in Our Lady of Good Voyage Church at 9:30 a.m. Family and friends are cordially invited. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Greely Funeral Home. The burial will be held in Calvary Cemetery, Gloucester.
