Wenham, MA — Gardner W. (Tucky) Holmes, Jr., 95, a safety engineer for Commercial Union Insurance Company, died on June 13, 2012 at the Sterling Village Nursing Home after comp lications with Diabetes and Dementia.
Mr. Holmes was born in Gloucester and won an athletic scholarship to Northeastern University. He became a teacher until he entered the Armed Forces in World War II where he was stationed in the Philippines. After the War, Mr. Holmes and his wife, Claire Mortimer Holmes, settled in Wenham where Mr. Holmes built their family home. They were married for 39 years until her death in 1982. He entered into a second marriage with Mary McConnell Holmes and they moved to Chatham. They were married for 24 years until her death in 2011.
Mr. Holmes is survived by five children from his first marriage, Brian Holmes of Madison, WI; Dianne Holmes of Martinez, CA; Colin Holmes of Holden, MA; Gail Hamblin or Reston, VA; Christopher Holmes of Basking Ridge, NJ; three siblings, Donald Holmes of Rockport, MA; Phyllis Curcuru of Gloucester, MA; Lorraine Rose of Buford, GA; four grandchildren and one great grandchild.
