William "Dorsett" Ward, 57


Greenville, N.C. — William “Dorsett” Ward, 57, passed away Wednesday, September 19, after a two year battle against cancer. He fought the disease with determination, dignity, and wit and with the love and support of his family, close friends and most of all faith in his Lord.

Dorsett, named after his beloved great uncle William Simon Moye, Jr. and grandfather, Eli Dorsett Larkins, attended Greenville Public Schools and East Carolina University where he was a loyal and faithful member of the Kappa Alpha Fraternity.

Dorsett, a master fisherman, loved the outdoors and for the past 30 years made his living as a commercial and charter boat fisherman while living and working in the fishing villages of Hatteras, N.C. and Gloucester, Mass.

He was preceded in death by his father, James Harvey Ward, Jr.

He is survived by his mother, Barbara Ann Ward; brother, Jim Ward and wife, Katie; sister, Lisa Ward Hilliard; five nephews; one niece; and a great-niece.

Dorsett’s family would like to give special heartfelt thanks to his primary physician Dr. Heather White and her staff, Vidant Hospice and everyone that through their prayers, calls, cards and visits made this journey a little more bearable.

ARRANGEMENTS: A memorial service will be held Friday at 11 am at the Wilkerson Funeral Chapel. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the funeral home. Burial will be private.
