Gloucester — Dominic Clemenzi, 92, beloved husband of the late Helen Virginia Carper, died on September 22 at Kaplan Hospice after a short illness. Dominic was born at home in Beverly, MA, on January 12, 1920. He was the son of Concetta Marie Serra and John Clemenzi. When he was 15 years old his father, John, was injured and Dominic left high school in order to support the family of nine. After working for many years in his own masonry business World War II called him to service in the United States Army. During the war he served as a mechanic, spending two years in India where he greatly enjoyed the Indian culture and people.
Dominic always loved learning and was an excellent math student. After the war and settling his growing family in the home he built, he completed his high school diploma and with the help of the GI Bill received his college degree in Civil Engineering from Wentworth Institute in Boston. For many years he owned his own construction business, Clemenzi Construction, and received many awards and accolades for his outstanding engineering on numerous buildings throughout the North Shore and beyond. After decades in construction Dominic thought retirement might not suit him so he worked for Driscoll Construction as a consulting engineer.
Although Dominic was a hard worker who was respected for his skills and honesty, he had a real zest for many aspects of life. For more than three decades he was an active member of the Beverly Lions Club, a square dancer, an inventive chef, tended a large vegetable garden and fruit orchard, raised some farm animals, and enjoyed clamming and fishing. In later years at his home in Gloucester, MA, he created amazing stone sculptures that grace the gardens of many friends and family members.
Dominic was predeceased by his loving wife of 60 years, Helen Virginia Carper, by his son Robert, his sister Emma Clemenzi Villanti, and his bothers Angelo and John. He is survived by his son Richard Clemenzi of Byfield, MA, his daughter Dorothy Blanchette of Falmouth, Maine, and her husband Tim, his son David Clemenzi of Byfield, MA, and his wife Charline, his daughter Mary Khalil of Haverhill, MA, and her husband Mostafa and grandchildren Michael, Vincent, Anthony, Christopher, Ethan and his fiancée Sarah Follows, Aaron and his wife Jennifer, Eric and his wife Amanda, Tina and her husband Craig Fredericks, Omar, Aisha, and Sarah and her husband Nabile and 4 great-grandchildren, Gabriella, Arianna, Xavier, and Zane. He is also survived by his brother Peter Clemenzi, sister Sophie Villanti, both of Beverly, MA, sister Mary DiGrandi of Hyde Park, NY, his friend and companion Eleanor Eveleth and many nieces and nephews.
ARRANGEMENTS: A funeral service will be celebrated in the Christ Church of Hamilton, 149 Asbury St., Hamilton, on Wednesday, September 26th, at 10 AM. Relatives and friends invited and asked to go directly to church. Visiting hours will be held in the Campbell-Lee, Moody, Russell Funeral Home on Tuesday from 4 to 8PM.
