Gloucester, MA — Marilyn J. Steele, a longtime resident of Lanesville, died peacefully at the Fisher House of Amherst on May 23, 2013. She was the beloved daughter of the late Russell and Nora (Reddington) Steele, and sister of the late Russell E. Steele. Marilyn was originally from Braintree, Mass., where she attended elementary and high school, and was a drummer in the town's marching band. Marilyn graduated from Boston University's Sargent College in 1959, and taught physical education in the Arlington Public Schools. She moved to Lanesville in the early 1980s, fulfilling a longtime dream of living near Plum Cove Beach, where she had spent many happy days as a child. Marilyn was proud of her Swedish heritage, visiting Sweden several times, and was a member of Spiran Lodge in Rockport for many years. She was an accomplished knitter, and loved swimming in Folly Cove, walking her beloved Bernese Mountain dogs at Halibut Point, and biking on the trails of Dogtown.
ARRANGEMENTS: Friends are invited to join her family in remembering Marilyn at the Lanesville Community Center, 8 Vulcan St., Gloucester, on Sunday, July 21, from 2 to 4 p.m.
