Gloucester, MA — Elizabeth A. (Densmore) Lafata, 67, of Gloucester, wife of Peter P. Lafata, of Gloucester, was taken from her family unexpectedly on Tuesday, June 18, 2013.
She was born in Gloucester, Mass., on January 14, 1946, daughter of the late Michael “Mickey” and Mary (Smith) Densmore.
Betty grew up in Gloucester where she met her husband and married her true love. They were the Lucy and Desi, the Fred and Ginger, the Pete and Betty of Gloucester. They were the ultimate soulmates.
She was a graduate of St. Ann’s School and Gloucester High School. Betty was a true Gloucester Girl.
Always adventurous, Betty could be seen walking the boulevard, rollerblading on the Back Shore, kayaking on the Annisquam River or swimming at the Cape Ann Marina.
The most precious times have been spent with her grandchildren who adored her. Grammy was there for every athletic event, school concert, birthday and graduation. Whatever her grandkids were involved in, she was there front and center.
Always happy, Betty could light up any room with a delicious sense of humor and wit.
Her smile was infectious – her heart was filled with love for all – she always saw the best in all of us – and always supportive of her whole family – Auntie Betty, Grammy, friend and loving wife will be missed deeply. She will forever be in our hearts. She will also be missed by her crazy Gloucester “sisterhood” friends, her Essex dinner group and the Cape Ann Marina clan. All friends old and new, she has touched every one of them.
Betty is survived by her husband of 48 years, Peter P. Lafata of Gloucester; a daughter, Katrina Haskell and her husband, James, of Essex; 2 sons, Mick Lafata and his wife, Suzanne (Razin), of Topsfield, Robert Lafata of Gloucester and his companion, Stacie Cirinna, of Beverly; 7 grandchildren, Jackson and Annabelle Haskell of Essex, Colton, Garrett, Brandon and Savannah Lafata of Topsfield and Shelby McLeod of Rockport; 4 sisters, Ann Cavanaugh of her husband, Dennis, of New York, Katherine Canillas and her husband, John, of Florida, Mary Atwood and her husband, Ronald, of Florida, Margaret Teeling and her husband, Brendon, of Ipswich; 2 brothers, James Densmore and his wife, Stephanie, of Maine, Michael Densmore and his wife, Cindy, of Gloucester; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Francis Biondo, Gaspar and Sue Lafata, all of Gloucester, Rose and Sonny Jessep, and Joseph and Holly Lafata, all of California.
