Catherine G. Francis, 89

Gloucester — Catherine Grace (Bammarito) Francis, 89, of Gloucester, wife of the late Frank C. Francis, passed away on Sunday, February 10, 2013, at the Golden Living Center following a long and debilitating illness. She was born in Gloucester, on November 1, 1923, daughter of the late Antone and Maria (D’Amico) Bommarito, who died when she was only three years old. Her father remarried and his new wife, Catherine Bammarito helped to raise his children.

Catherine worked for Gorton’s of Gloucester during World War II, doing piece work cutting fish. When the war was over, she married Frank. She raised her two children with love and gave them strength and integrity and class. She also gave to them determination and self respect and the love to read and learn. She loved God and her family. She was forced to leave behind her education at a young age to help her step-mother take care of her siblings. She was always there for everyone and only wanted acceptance and love all her life. She loved her church, her religion, and God above all else. A godly woman who is now with him. Catherine loved life and could identify the magnificence in simplicity. Her door was always open to anyone for a cup of coffee, a homemade cookie or a piece of pie and conversation. We will miss her.

She is survived by her children, Frank C. Francis Jr. and his wife, Janice (Lovasco) Francis of Gloucester and Joanna Francis and her husband, Charles Wesley McCall Jr. of St. George Island, Fla.; her grandson, Frank C. Francis III of North Andover; five sisters, Mary Brazier and her husband, Robert Brazier, Faye Curcuru wife of the late, Sam Curcuru, Anna Watson and her husband, Dave Watson, Angie Borge wife of the late Norman Borge all of Gloucester and Josie Fulham wife of the late Frank Fulham of Maine; her brother, Joseph Bammarito of Vermont and her sister-in-law, Ida Bommarito of Gloucester. She was an aunt to over 50 nieces and nephews, who she cherished and loved. She was predeceased by two brothers, Harry Bammarito, James Bammarito; her sister, Frances Susanno and her husband Leo Susanno.
