Greenville, SC — Laura W. Roberts, formerly of 6 Old Farm Lane, Gloucester, died Sunday, June 2, 2013, in Greenville, S.C.
Born in Sayre, Pa., she was the only child of the late Frederick and Carolyn McKinney Whitaker. She graduated from Vassar College with a Bachelor of Science degree in botany. Music was a large part of Laura's life, and she played the cello and piano. In Hastings-on-Hudson, N.Y., where she raised her family, she was an active member in the Dutch First Reformed Church. Laura and her husband, Don, moved to Gloucester in 1992, where they enjoyed their retirement years. Following Don's death, Laura moved to Greensboro, N.C., to live near her daughter.
As a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she generated warmth with a loving, caring spirit.
Surviving are a daughter, Carolyn (Edward) Uprichard of Travelers Rest, S.C.; son, John (Nancy) D. Roberts of Portsmouth, R.I.; grandchildren, Susan and John Uprichard, Scott Roberts and Erin Roberts Keysor; great-grandchildren, Matthew, Katherine, Megan and Caroline Uprichard, Ethan and Seth Roberts, and Henry and Rose Whitaker Keysor; and many nieces and nephews in the extended Herrling and Schaal families. Laura was predeceased by her husband, Donald, and a son, Henry "Bob" Whitaker Roberts.

Memorial services will be Friday, July 26, at 11 a.m., at Pigeon Cove Chapel, 155 Granite Street, Rockport.
