Meriden, CT — Jean Tamburine Bertolli, 83, of Meriden, beloved wife of Eugene E. Bertolli for 57 years, died Tuesday, April 30, 2013, surrounded by her loving family at Hartford Hospital.
Jean was born in Meriden, a daughter of the late Paul and Helen Marks Tamburine. She was a devoted parishioner of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church.
Jean was an award-winning fine artist, writer and illustrator, with God given talent. She studied under premier art teachers in New York and New England. She is a nationally known sculptor, painter and book illustrator, author, and designer. She was selected by Pearl S. Buck to produce renderings of Amerasian children. Her paintings, drawings and sculpture are in public and private collections. She created “Heritage” a bronze sculpture commissioned by the Wallingford Public Library and dedicated in 1986. She was one of the fifteen original commissioners appointed by Gov. John Dempsey to form the Connecticut Commission on the Arts. She was on the council of Academic Artists Assn., American Medallic Sculpture Assn., North Shore Arts Assn., Rockport Art Assn., American Artists Professional League, Salmagundi Club, and Authors Guild. Jean was one of the first women to be inducted into the Meriden Hall of Fame. She is recognized as a sculptor, painter of religious art; and art which celebrates life and the family. In addition to her husband, Eugene, she is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Guy Marchetti Jr.; and her son, Dr. Eugene Robert Bertolli and his special friend, Shawn Louise Tompkins. Jean is also survived by brother-in-law, Vincent Bertolli and wife, Gilda, and sister-in-law, Mary Caswell Bertolli.

ARRANGEMENTS: A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated Friday, May 3, 2013, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Meriden. Entombment was in Sacred Heart Mausoleum in Meriden.
