Seattle, WA — Maureen L. Hoy, 57, died of cancer on August 21, 2012, in her home under hospice care. Maureen grew up in Rockport, MA, and always considered it her true home. She graduated from Bennington College and received her JD from the University of Puget Sound School of Law in 1991.
Maureen found great joy in singing and working out at the gym. She cared deeply about her small menagerie of cats, cockatiels, and a dog. Performing with the Medieval Women’s Choir in Seattle was an important part of her life, as was her love for her family and friends. She acted as home-care aide for several relatives and neighbors toward the end of their lives. Her curiosity was inexhaustible. Those who knew her well described her as “always in motion.” It is hard to believe she is now still.
Maureen is survived by her fiancé, Norman Volotin, Seattle; mother, Eleanor Hoy, Rockport, MA; father, Dwight Lyman Hoy, Soap Lake, WA; brother, John Hoy, and his wife, Robin Hoagland Hoy, Brunswick, GA; sister, Joann Hoy, and her spousal equivalent, Lawrence Gould, Auburn, NH; niece, Gretchen Greenbride, her husband Ezra, and their daughter, Lailah, New Orleans, LA; and aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. We will miss her.
ARRANGEMENTS: Services will be private. Donations in Maureen’s memory can be made to Medieval Women’s Choir (medievalwomenschoir.org) or Friends of the Rockport Public Library (PO Box 31, Rockport, MA 01966).
