Gloucester, MA — Clara Mabel (Grover) Sears, wife of the late Milton Sears of Rockport, passed away on Tuesday morning, Sept. 4, at the Seacoast Nursing and Rehabilitation Center after a lengthy illness.
Born in Gloucester on Aug. 6, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Florence (Hinckley) Grover. She was extremely proud of being a descendant of the Mayflower and a co-owner, with her sister, Muriel, of the Olde Essex Village Candy Shoppe. She loved to knit and crochet, as all the grandchildren can attest to. She loved playing bingo with her gang on Friday nights at St. Ann’s. She was also a member of the Guild of Our Lady of Good Voyage, Gloucester Fraternity Ladies Auxiliary, and the Golden Ages.
She is survived by her son Milton “Micky” Sears and his wife Cynthia (Mitchell); two daughters, Evelyn Murphy and her husband William (Billy) Murphy III, and Tammy Morgan and her husband Henry “Hank” Morgan III, all of Gloucester; grandchildren Brett Murphy of Gloucester, Matthew “Matt” Sears and his wife Brandi (Bowles) of New York City, Kristen (Murphy) Lojacono and her husband Terence, Marcy Sears, Erin (Murphy) Aberegg and her husband Rodney, all of Gloucester, and Ashley Morgan of Beverly; great-grandchildren, Alyssa Leaman, Tess and Abigayle Campbell, Haylee and Cameron Aberegg, and Olivia and Christopher Lojacono, all of Gloucester; sister, Muriel Barletta and her husband Pasquale, brother, William Grover and his wife Marilyn of Florida, sisters-in-law, Barbara (Murray) Grover and Gloria (St. Jean) Sears; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was affectionately known as “Nana” by all her grand - and great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was pre-deceased by a sister; Dorothy and her husband Frank Saunders; brothers, Ronald Grover, Edward “Brud” Grover and his wife Jean and their daughter Lynn; and sister-in-law, Nancy (Brennan) Grover.
ARRANGEMENTS: Her funeral will be held from the James C. Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington St., Gloucester, on Thursday, at 8:45 a.m., followed by a funeral mass celebrated in Our Lady of Good Voyage Church at 9:30 a.m. Burial will be held in Calvary Cemetery.
Visiting hours will be held TODAY, Wednesday, Sept. 5 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
