Rockport — Elizabeth W. “Betty” Engel, 88, wife of Theodore F. Engel, Jr., DMD, of Rockport, passed away on Sunday morning, October 7, 2012 at the Seacoast Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Born in Rockport on June 26, 1924, she was the daughter of the late A. Victor and Maude (Gott) Wilson.

Betty was a graduate of Rockport High School with the Class of 1941 and graduate of Boston University, College of Practical Arts and Letters, Class of 1943. As a young lady, Betty had worked for Godfried L. Cabot Corp in Boston for eight years as a secretary to the Controller.

Betty was a lifelong active member of the Rockport community. Since the age of 13, she was a member of the Sandy Bay Yacht Club, longtime member of the Rockport Garden Club and Art Association. She was also a lifelong member of the First Congregational Church.

She loved sailing and boating and was an avid skier. She also enjoyed tending to her beautiful gardens and was a very talented water color painter. Betty will be remembered for kind heart and warm inviting smile. She was always gracious to everyone she encountered and will be dearly missed by many.

In addition to her husband Ted, she is survived by her three children, Steven Engel and his wife Anne of Needham and their children Elizabeth and Ted, Beverly LaCombe and her husband Gerry of Beverly and their children Heather and Evan, Bruce Engel and his wife Maria of Needham; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her sister Eleanor Brown.

ARRANGEMENTS: A memorial service will be held in the First Congregational Church, Rockport on Monday, October 15th at 12 p.m. Family and friends are cordially invited to attend.

The burial will be held privately.There are no visiting hours.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her name to the Capital Fund or to the Sailing Program, Sandy Bay Yacht Club, 5 T Wharf, Rockport, MA. 01966.
