Gloucester — Bluey was called home to the Lord on Monday, October 29. He died peacefully with his devoted wife, Mary, by his side.
He was born on November 12, 1930 to the late Fannie (Stockbridge) and Augustus Duwart in Gloucester.
A lifelong resident of Gloucester, Bluey graduated from Gloucester High School with the class of 1949. He worked at Gorton’s before joining the Gloucester Police Department in 1958 and served with Battery A in the Army National Guard for 12 years. Bluey was a permanent fixture directing traffic for the city at Sterling’s corner before his retirement after 32 years of service.
He was a lifetime member of the Gloucester Fraternity Club and faithful parishioner of Our Lady of Good Voyage Church. Being an avid golfer, he spent many years on the links at Bass Rocks Country Club with his brother, Dickie. Bluey and his wife, Mary, have shared 58 years of marriage. He enjoyed spending time with his family; especially his grandsons. It gave him great pleasure to cheer them on no matter what the sport; be it soccer, football, baseball or hockey.
In addition to his wife, Mary, he is survived by his daughter, Renee and husband Ralph Pierce; his son Carleton E. “Bluey, Jr.” and his wife Doreen; his grandsons, Andrew and wife Kathy Pierce of Gloucester and Mark and Beth Pierce of Epping, N.H.; one great-grandson, Trent Carter Pierce and one great-granddaughter, Toni Marie Baptiste of Gloucester. He also leaves his twin brother Carroll “Pinky” Duwart of Tewksbury; his brother-in-law, Ralph E. Goulart and sisters-in-law, Irene “Renee” Duwart and Elinor Enos. He also leaves many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his three brothers, William “Zeke” Enos and wife, Mary, Austin Enos and Richard “Dickie” Duwart; two sisters, Elva Silva and Arline Powers, and sister-in-law Pauline Duwart.
ARRANGEMENTS: His Funeral Mass will be celebrated in Our Lady of Good Voyage Church on Wednesday, October 31, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend.
A visitation will be held prior to the Mass on Wednesday in the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington St., Gloucester from 8 – 9:30 a.m.
The burial will be held in Calvary Cemetery, Gloucester.
