Edna G. (Fortado) Calder, 84


Gloucester — Edna G. (Fortado) Calder, 84, formerly of 99 Prospect Street, died Monday, October 29, 2012 at Golden Living Center, following a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Clyde A. Calder.

Born in Gloucester on March 5, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Frederick L. and Katherine (Mitchell) Fortado. She was a lifelong resident of Gloucester.

Edna had been employed as a clerk for many years at the former Ames Department Store.

She was a longtime communicant of the St. Ann’s Church and sang in the choir. She also enjoyed spending time at the Rose Baker Senior Center.

She is survived by two sisters, Sister Eugene Fortado of Gloucester and Elizabeth Stanton of East Wakefield, N.H.; two brothers, Walter, husband of Emma (Blatchford) Fortado of Gloucester and James Fortado of South Hamilton; and many nieces and nephews including Katherine A., wife of Edward Dunphy and their family. She was also predeceased by three sisters, Mary E. Lang, Patricia Maliski and Virginia Lattof; three brothers, Frederick L. Fortado, Jr., Everett Fortado and Albert Fortado and her longtime companion, Arthur Tarr.

ARRANGEMENTS: In keeping with her wishes, there will be no services. Arrangements are under the direction of the Pike-Grondin Funeral Home, 61 Middle Street, Gloucester.
