Gloucester — Carleton F. Ellis, Jr., 74, husband of Josephine “Josie” (Lafata) Ellis, of Gloucester, passed away on Friday morning, November 9, 2012, at the Addison Gilbert Hospital.
Born in Gloucester on January 11, 1938, he was the son of the late Carleton F. Ellis Sr. and Lillian (Murray) Ellis.
Carl was a graduate of Gloucester High School with the Class of 1956. He was also a star goaltender for the Gloucester Fisherman Hockey Team.
For over 40 years, Carl had worked as a tool setter for United Shoe in Beverly until he retired.
He was a lifelong Gloucester High School sports fan and loved watching his sons and grandchildren play sports throughout their school years. Carl was also an avid golfer and played for many years at the former Folly Hill Golf Club, now Beverly Golf & Tennis Club. He was a lifelong member of the Masons Tyrian Lodge AF & AM and the Aleppo Temple Shriners.
Carl adored his family, especially his beloved grandchildren and will be dearly missed.
In addition to his wife Josie who he shared 53 years of marriage, he is survived by his two devoted sons, Carleton F. Ellis III and his wife Janice of Gloucester and their children Carleton F. Ellis IV and his wife Alicia of Philidelphia, Candice B. Ellis of Gloucester, Daniel P. Ellis of Franklin; son Anthony M. Ellis and his wife Jeannine of Beverly and their children Anthony M. Ellis Jr. and Brittaney E. Ellis of Beverly; his sister Geneva B. Anderson of Gloucester; his brother Arnold F. Ellis of Beverly; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his sisters Louise Ellis and Harriet Levie.
